LEARN TO SKATE

This will be an introductory to skating program without introducing concepts of hockey. Emphasis will be placed on personal skill development within a fun-filled environment. The following equipment is required: Helmet (hockey-style with cage) and skates. Gloves (winter or hockey), elbow and knee pads are recommended. Skate rentals are not available.
The 2023 LEARN TO SKATE program will be run by Michael and Michelle Gorra.
Mike Gorra coached high school hockey for 17 years. He has taught skating skills for the Icehawks since 2004. Mike and his wife Michelle teach a program that is centered on developing skills while having fun and taking the fear out of being on the ice.
The goal of the LEARN TO SKATE program is to take your child from the first steps on the ice to being able to navigate the ice while turning, stopping and skating backwards. This program is not for children who are able to skate well and are looking for more advanced technique instruction.
WHO IS IT FOR?
Children ages 4 and up with little or no skating experience.
WHAT MAKES LEARN TO SKATE DIFFERENT THAN INTRO TO HOCKEY?
LEARN TO SKATE will teach the basics of skating without the introduction of any hockey skills. Children must wear a hockey helmet with a cage and skates but no other equipment is required, although winter gloves are highly recommended!
INTRO TO HOCKEY will teaching skating while learning basic hockey skills. Passing, puck handling and basic shooting are covered while learning how to skate. In addition, INTRO TO HOCKEY is played in full hockey equipment.
