Northwestern Hockey In-House Programs

Northwestern Hockey offers hockey and skating programs for all ages and skill levels.  Please take a look at our selection below.

IMPORTANT NOTICE

You must register with USA Hockey BEFORE completing the Online Registration for any of the programs listed below (except Family Skate).  Visit www.usahockeyregistration.com to register.  Once your registration is complete, keep the Registration Number handy and proceed with the online registration below.  Thank you.

SPECIAL NOTE:
If your child has previously participated in one of our programs and the registration process states "Ineligible" it is likely due to a missing birth date in our records.  Please click the "Ineligible" button and proceed with entering your child's correct birth date.  Once you have done that, the registration system will allow you to register your child.
 

 

Intro to Hockey (For beginners ages 4 and up)

This program will combine an introduction to skating and hockey geared to children ages 4 and up.  Children will learn to skate while holding a stick in their hands. Passing, puck handling and basic shooting will be covered as well. Emphasis will be placed on personal skill development within a fun-filled environment. Full hockey equipment is required.  Intro to Hockey is offered at 2 convenient locations as follows:

Canterbury School in New Milford
Two hours per week
Canterbury Schedule: Saturdays 7:15 a.m. and Sundays 8:00 a.m. (10/25/14 - 2/22/15)
Cost: $250 plus $47.50 USA Hockey registration fee.  (There is no USA Hockey registration fee for children born 2008 or later, but registration is still required)



Gunnery School in Washington
One hour per week
Gunnery Schedule: Sundays 3:30 p.m. (11/16/14 - 2/22/15)
Cost: $175 plus $47.50 USA Hockey registration fee.  (There is no USA Hockey registration fee for children born 2008 or later, but registration is still required)


 


 

Learn to Skate (ages 4 and up)

This will be an introductory to skating program without introducing concepts of hockey.  Emphasis will be placed on personal skill development within a fun-filled environment.  The following equipment is required: Certified hockey helmet with facemask.  Gloves (winter or hockey), elbow and knee pads recommended. Skate rentals are not available.

Gunnery School in Washington
One hour per week

Gunnery Schedule: Sundays 3:30 p.m. (11/16/14 - 2/22/15)

Cost: $175 plus $47.50 USA Hockey registration fee.  (There is no USA Hockey registration fee for children born 2008 or later, but registration is still required)

 

 



 

Mite Cross Ice League - Junior Division (ages 5 to 7) 

 

The Northwestern Mite Cross Ice League - Junior Division is for is for players who have completed the Intro to Hockey program (or equivalent) and will not be playing on a mite travel team.  This is for skaters with some hockey experience who are 5 and 6 years old.  Seven year old skaters could be in this division based on their size or skill level.  There will be 1 weekend practice and 1 weekend cross ice game starting in mid-October and running through the end of February.  In addition, skaters can attend a weeknight skills clinic at Rumsey Hall for free.  Players will be divided into teams that are as competitively even as possible.

Mite Cross Ice League - Senior Division (ages 6 to 8) 

 

The Northwestern Mite Cross Ice League - Senior Division is for is for players who have completed the Intro to Hockey program (or equivalent) and will not be playing on a mite travel team.  This is for skaters with more hockey experience who are 7 and 8 years old.  Six year old skaters could be in this division based on their size or skill level.  There will be 2 practices (1 on the weekend and 1 on a weeknight) and 1 weekend cross ice game starting in mid-October and running through the end of February. In addition, due to the popularity of our weekly skills clinics at Rumsey Hall, we expect there to be 2 skills clinics per week running from December through February.  Players in the Cross Ice “Senior” Division will be able to attend both of these clinics for free.  Players will be divided into teams that are as competitively even as possible.

Limited Travel Program (ages 9 to 10)

A season of hockey with less travel and time commitment.  Two hours per weekend including 10-16 games.  Drills emphasizing fun and skill development.  Home games will be at the Gunnery School in Washington as shown below.  Away games will be at other nearby rinks.  In addition, as an added bonus, all limited travel players may participate in a 1 hour skills clinic during the week held at the Rumsey Hall School rink. The regular cost of the weekly skills clinic is $10 per clinic, however, players registered in the Limited Travel Program can attend for free.

Squirt                   Saturdays 11:30 a.m. and Sundays 1:00 p.m. / 12:00 p.m. 10/25/14 to 2/22/15 at Gunnery - Cost: $475.
(ages 9-10)



 
Peewee/Bantam    Saturdays 11:30 a.m. and Sundays 11:45 a.m. / 10:45 p.m. 10/25/14 to 2/22/15 at Gunnery - Cost: $500.
(ages 11-14)

 
 

The Limited Travel program require a $47.50 USA Hockey registration fee.  
 

 

 

 

 

 

Family Skate

 

Bring your family to the Gunnery for some cool fun! Sunday evenings 4:45 pm to 7:00 pm from November 16, 2014 through February 22, 2015.  Sessions consist of 2 hours of skating time with a 15 minute ice resurfacing midway through the session.  This program sponsored by the Town of Washington.  Payment can be made at the rink.  Registration with USA Hockey is NOT required for this program.
